Is it worthwhile to enclose a terrace?

Enclosing the terraceYou increase its functionality. A roof over the terrace will make your plans independent of the weather. Even on hot or rainy days, you can make full use of your "garden living room". By putting up side walls, you gain an intimate corner for relaxation. You can sunbathe, meet up with friends or have a meal without worrying about being an attraction to your neighbours.

Sheltered terrace minimises discomfort on windy days. The enclosed walls of the terrace, for example, turn it into a discreet place for drying laundry, barbecue facilities or a home playground for children.

If you have pets and are worried about them escaping, it's also a good idea to enclose the terrace. This way you can be sure that your pet will not escape. Enclosing the terrace or balcony for your cat also makes sense! You can let your pet outside and be sure it won't hurt itself.

What do you use to make the building?

You have many different options. You can make a cottage cover for your terrace or balcony out of tarpaulin or foil. There are various options on the market such as plexiglass, glass or polycarbonate terrace enclosures. You can also consider wooden decking made of boards or pallets. We particularly recommend louvre cladding! These can be made from two types of material:

  • wooden planks
  • aluminium fins

The simple construction of the external blinds will enable you to fill in the supporting structure yourself. The blind cladding is aesthetically pleasing and inexpensive. And most importantly - you can do it yourself. Read what you need to know about the system for louvre terrace cladding.

How do you make a wood or aluminium terrace enclosure?

Once you have chosen the material, colour and method of attachment of the blinds, it's time for assembly. Remember: an installation in a block of flats may be different from an installation in a bungalow. If you have questions about installation, contact us.

  1. Start with the design. Measure the terrace carefully. Draw development plan.  Consider the positioning of the patio blinds and the materials needed for the structure and frames to which you will attach the blinds.
  2. Prepare the ground. Make sure the terrace is even and stable. The substrate must also be suitable for the installation of the terrace blinds. Are you thinking about a sliding housing? Our system allows sliding terrace walls to be fitted even on ground with a slight slope.
  3. Install the structural posts. Install the posts that will support the patio blinds. The posts should be placed at the correct spacing to ensure adequate structural strength.
  4. Install the frames. Install the wood or aluminium frame that will form the base for the patio blinds. Attach the frame to the posts using the appropriate fasteners.
  5. Install patio blinds. Fit the patio blinds onto the frame. Make sure they are correctly fixed and can move freely. See instructions on how to assemble the blinds.
  6. Paint or waterproof. For wooden terrace blinds, protect the wood from the weather. Simply paint or impregnate them with a special product. Blinds with aluminium slats require no special maintenance.

How much does such a development cost?

It depends on the material you want to cover the terrace with and the surface area of the development. If you would like to know the exact costs for your terrace - please call us + 48 530-336-595 or write wycena@otwierane.pl

. We will take the various options into account and calculate everything for you!

Do I need permission to build terraces?

The short answer? You don't need one. Unless you are planning a development of more than 35 m2. Regardless of the size of the development, you must notify it to the architectural and building administration. That is, for example, to the community to which the plot belongs. The notification must be accompanied by a declaration that the property is available for construction purposes and a preliminary plan of the development project.

Terrace enclosure for a room - is it worth it?

If you want to make a complete enclosure with a canopy - you get an extra room that you can plan in different ways. If you make a permanent structure - you get a winter garden. If you want to use the terrace all year round, the problem of heating remains to be solved. However, it will be difficult to retain both functions of such a terrace. That means a year-round room and an open seating area in the garden. Is it worth it? It's certainly worth it to be able to use your terrace for as long as possible.
